Project selected within Power of Design & Transitions programme

The project “System interventions with impact: designing the new elderly care” has been selected within the programme Design Power & Transitions of CLICKNL! This programme focuses on developing knowledge and methods to more effectively design for transitions. In order to strengthen design practice and to better deploy it in complex issues, research is needed into new ways of working and the optimal application of design power.

“System interventions with impact: designing the new elderly care” is one of five projects selected within this programme. This project was developed by a consortium consisting of Hogeschool Inholland (Societal Impact Design Lectureship & Expertise Network Systemic Co-Design), morgenmakers, ActiZ, Simac and Precies!.

Systems interventions with impact: designing the new elderly care system

The dual aging challenge is putting immense pressure on our healthcare: by 2040, only 60% of the population is working (now 71%), there are 1.5 million people over 80 and 4.7 million over 65. Care cannot solve this alone; it is a task that requires cooperation between government, care & welfare organizations and society. Elderly care must be organized radically differently, with system interventions as the key. The contribution of the creative industry to this is fragmentary: there are many pilots but little coherence.

This project focuses on increasing and professionalizing design power to orchestrate change in the care transition. Which strategic nodes in the elder care system require existing or new interventions to fundamentally transform roles, responsibilities and collaboration and strengthen (in)formal elder care?
